Dufferin County Council is responsible for overseeing the governance, policies, and procedures impacting local residents and businesses.
Effective April 24, 2025, County Council is moving to a direct to Council reporting structure, with appointed Council members acting as “Portfolio Chairs”. A portfolio chair means a Member who serves as the primary point of contact and facilitator between the Council and their assigned department.
Dufferin County Council consists of 15 members representing each of the 8 municipalities in Dufferin. Council meeting processes are set out in the County’s Procedural By-Law.
With few exceptions, County Council meets on the second (2nd) Thursday of each month at 7 pm and the fourth (4th) Thursday of each month at 9 am. Council meetings are live streamed and recorded on our website. Advisory Committees
An advisory committee of Council is a group of individuals appointed or selected to provide advice, recommendations, and expertise to Council. The committees typically consist of community members, experts, stakeholders, and sometimes elected officials who offer guidance on specific issues or areas of concern within the jurisdiction. The purpose of advisory committees is to ensure that Council has access to diverse perspectives and informed opinions when making decisions that affect the community. While advisory committees do not have decision-making authority themselves, their input is valuable in shaping policies, programs, and initiatives proposed by the council.
