Flooding Cleanup in Effect
Flooding cleanup is in full effect in Dufferin County, with upper- and lower-tier municipal teams combining their efforts to address reported issues in Grand Valley, Amaranth, East Garafraxa and other areas.
Residents are asked to:
- Stay updated. For road closure information visit Municipal511, and stay up to date with information from trusted sources including the local municipalities and the Ontario Provincial Police.
- Avoid flooded areas.Never drive or walk through flooded streets or water-covered areas. Flood waters can rise rapidly, making them unsafe, and can carry contaminants that could cause illness or infection.
- Allow work teams space. Municipal teams will be out dealing with residual flooding issues including water, debris, and patches of ice, and are working quickly to reopen closed roads. Make way for municipal vehicles and be aware that drones may be used to survey areas of concern more efficiently.
- Check personal wells. If you have concerns about your well’s water quality, tests are available from the Orangeville office of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health.
- Plan accordingly. If you live in a flood-prone area, it is essential to take proactive steps to protect your property. Local authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
Dufferin County’s response teams are already hard at work, and updates will be provided as needed. If you or a neighbour require support in clearing any flooding or debris, please contact your local municipal office.
