The Museum of Dufferin (MoD) collects and preserves the stories of the people, places and culture of Dufferin County — past and present — and shares them through engaging and inclusive experiences. The MoD offers a welcoming, unique and enriching environment for its visitors, with an eclectic variety of experiences by way of exhibitions, events, programs and tours. There’s something for everyone – here’s what’s coming up in February at the MoD!

MoD Studio Workshop: Clay Hand Building for Kids | February 10, 1 to 2 pm
In this workshop, children will learn about one of the core techniques of hand building with clay by creating a pinch pot and adding their own designs. The MoD will have historic pieces of Dufferin County pottery on display to inspire and study!

MoD Studio Workshops are designed to introduce you to new artforms and techniques! We recommend these workshops for “beginners” who are looking to try out something new. This workshop is for children ages 7 to 12. Registration is $15 plus HST per child. Learn more and register.

MoD Tots: Valentines Day | February 14, 9 am to 10 am or 11 am to noon
Join us for MoD-Tots: Valentines Day! Celebrate the season of love with your toddler through tot-friendly Valentine’s Day crafts and sensory play!  Registration and caregiver participation are required. Children are $7 plus HST and parents/caregivers are free. Learn more about MoD-Tots and register.

Family Day at the Museum of Dufferin | February 19, 11 am to 4 pm
Join us for Family Day at the Museum of Dufferin for crafts, scavenger hunts and family-friendly activities! The entire museum is open for you to explore and admission is free!

This is a popular event. The MoD asks that you reserve your free time-entry tickets on Eventbrite. Learn more and register.

Archives Workshop: Genealogy Brick Wall | February 21, 9 am to noon and February 24, 9 am to noon

Have you hit a "brick wall" in your genealogy research? Book a personal one-hour appointment with the Archivist and they will work to turn that brick wall into a pit stop!

Bring your brick wall research problem and the archivist will do their best to answer your questions. Appointments are for one person and one hour long. Advance registration is required. $20 per appointment. Learn more and register.

MoD Studio Workshop: Transportation Exploration for Kids | Saturday, February 24, 1 to 2 pm
In this workshop, children will try their hand at building their own self-propelled cars! They can add their own designs and race against their friends. This workshop is for children ages 7 to 12. Registration is $15 plus HST per child. Learn more and register.

Black History Month event – Celebrating Black Excellence | February 24, 2023, 6 to 8 pm
Everyone is welcome for this free event at Grace Tipling Hall, Shelburne. Presented by the Dufferin County Canadian Black Association, together we will celebrate Black excellence with musical guests, including Liberty Silver, Juno Award-winning singer, keynote speakers and special presentations.

Tickets must be reserved on Eventbrite in advance. Admission is free. Non-perishable food items or a monetary donation to benefit Shepherd's Cupboard (Shelburne Food Bank) are welcome.

MoD-Tots: Fairytale Friends | February 28, 9 am to 10 am, 11 am to noon
Join us for MoD-Tots: Fairytale Friends! You and your toddler can explore the magic of fairytales through tot-friendly art and sensory play. Registration and caregiver participation are required. Children are $7 plus HST and parents/caregivers are free. Program is for children ages 1 to 4. A child under the age of one may be registered; however some activities may not be age appropriate. The MoD, located at 936029 Airport Road Mulmur, Ontario, features three galleries and four historic buildings that host long-term and short-term exhibitions and art shows. The MoD is also home to the Dufferin County Archives. Check out the Museum’s current exhibitions here.
