Declarations of Pecuniary Interest
Process for Disclosure of Pecuniary Interest
If a matter comes before Council that a member believes they have a pecuniary interest in, the member shall:
- Declare the pecuniary interest at the start of the meeting.
- Leave the room during discussion and voting on the matter.
- Refrain from attempting in any way whether before, during, or after the meeting to influence the voting on the matter.
- Complete a written statement of pecuniary interest and submit it to the Clerk.
All declaration of pecuniary interest are recorded in the meeting minutes.
Registry
Under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, Dufferin County is required to maintain a registry of all declarations of pecuniary interest made by Council members. The written statement of pecuniary interest are available for viewing upon request in the Clerkâs Office.
