Disconnect and Extend Downspouts
Disconnect downspouts from municipal drainage systems and extend downspouts and sump discharge pipes at least 2m from foundation or to the nearest drainage swale.
Make sure that the end of your downspouts should drain at least 2m (5-feet) away from your home.
Point the downspout towards a lawn, garden, road, or driveway.
IMPORTANT: If your home was built before 1969, your downspout might run directly into your sanitary sewer system. During a stormwater event, these downspouts could overwhelm the sanitary sewer system and cause a backflow of sewage into your home or a neighbour's home.
