Disconnect and Extend Downspouts
Disconnect downspouts from municipal drainage systems and extend downspouts and sump discharge pipes at least 2m from foundation or to the nearest drainage swale.
Do:

Make sure that the end of your downspouts should drain at least 2m (5-feet) away from your home.

Point the downspout towards a lawn, garden, road, or driveway.
Do NOT:
IMPORTANT: If your home was built before 1969, your downspout might run directly into your sanitary sewer system. During a stormwater event, these downspouts could overwhelm the sanitary sewer system and cause a backflow of sewage into your home or a neighbour's home.
