Health and Safety Summer Student

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, you will assist the Health and Safety Advisor, with hazard assessments and support safety-related initiatives in a diverse municipal setting.

What you’ll do

  • Research to stay appraised of and support the implementation of current Health and Safety best practices
  • Assist in coordinating and conducting hazard assessments at various locations
  • Liaise with management, employees, Health and Safety Representatives and Joint Health & Safety Committees
  • Organize and track Health & Safety related records, procedures and training material
  • Assist the development of leading-edge concepts to augment Health & Safety training efforts
  • Support Wellness Initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

What you’ll bring

  • Currently enrolled in, or having completed, an applicable Health and Safety program at an accredited college or university
  • Have and maintain a valid Ontario G or G2 Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle, as travel within Dufferin County is required
  • C.S.A. approved safety footwear
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively; both oral and written
  • Self-motivated with the ability to function independently and as part of a team
  • Availability to work 35 hours per week with a typical work week being Monday through Friday

This is a student position funded by Canada Summer Jobs program. To be considered for this position, all applicants must meet the following program eligibility criteria as required by Canada Summer Jobs.

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
