Health and Safety Advisor HR Associate (9-month contract)

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources (HR), the Health and Safety Advisor/ Human Resources Associate is responsible for supporting with the development and implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety program for the County of Dufferin and participating member municipalities. This position works collaboratively with the Health and Safety Advisor and will also assist the HR department with projects and other related HR functions.

What you’ll do

  • Plans, implements and monitors the Health and Safety program to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards
  • Acts as a resource to the County and participating member municipalities regarding the Occupational Health & Safety Act and associated relevant regulations and standards
  • Develops, delivers and tracks employee training related to safety in the workplace
  • Assists with incident investigations and provides recommendations to prevent future incidents.
  • Acts as a liaison in the absence of the Health and Safety Advisor with the Ministry of Labour and others for matters such as work refusals, incident investigations, and Ministry field visits
  • Assists with disability management and in the development of employee return-to-work plans
  • Reviews incident reports, identifies and analyzes trends, and prepares WSIB Form 7s as required
  • Assist with preparing interview questions, scheduling interviews, and performing reference checks
  • Assist with providing orientation to new employees
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned

What you’ll bring

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a closely related field
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and communicate effectively and tactfully with internal staff, community agencies and the public
  • Assets for this position includes designation as a Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), experience with e-learning development and/or prior HR related experience and education
  • 3-5 years of Health and Safety work experience, including experience in workplace inspections, WHMIS, incident investigation, WSIB, workplace accommodations and return-to-work programs, ergonomic assessments, disability claims management and wellness programs
  • Experience leading training requiring excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical research and reporting skills
  • Ability to write precise policies and procedures, advice and/or instructions
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and electronic document management systems
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation with the ability to travel to various locations within Dufferin County
