Equipment Operator/Labourer (Permanent Full Time)

Reporting to the Working Foreman, the Equipment Operator/Labourer will operate various construction equipment, snow removal equipment, and hand tools in the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges for the County of Dufferin road network.

What you’ll do

  • Road maintenance:
    • Hardtop maintenance (pothole patching, sweeping gravel, etc.)
    • Respond to emergency calls received from police, etc.
    • Operate tractor mower, backhoe, loader, and other road maintenance equipment
    • Operation of brushing equipment (chain saw, chipper)
    • Hand digging, for locates and installing road signs
  • Winter Maintenance
    • Adhering to the Minimum Maintenance Standards and smart salting
    • Operating tandem axle snow plow equipped with salt sander
    • Patrolling roads as required
    • Snow removal activities
  • Performing specific assigned duties in connection with roads construction done by the County
  • Setting up traffic control and acting as a traffic control person during road construction and maintenance activities
  • Assist with repairing and maintaining equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you’ll bring

  • A High School Diploma
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in operation of tandem axle snowplow, loader, backhoe, towing a tag-along float and other construction equipment
  • Experience in the methods of snowplowing, road construction, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of the Minimum Maintenance Standards and Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • A valid Ontario DZ drivers’ license and clean drivers abstract. AZ drivers’ license is preferred
  • Proficiency using computers to perform tasks such as entering time and checking the weather
  • Possess the ability to complete record keeping documentation
